Jeremy Geddes Paintings

It is not often that photo-realistic paintings can evoke so much emotion, but the work of Melbourne based Jeremy Geddes does just that. His work is most recognized by his hauntingly beautiful series of cosmonauts which seem to be completely isolated in some post-apocalyptic world.

Although no one can truly know the thought behind the work besides the artist, it appears that Geddes is commenting on our relationship with the planet and our decimation of its resources; possibly portraying our Earth with no gravity. There are often birds featured in the paintings which, for thousands of years, have been thought of as links between the heavens and the Earth. Geddes seems to be creating a fantastical narrative connecting the supernatural with the natural in a way that has never been done before. When someone thinks of divinity it usually never involves advanced technology or science, especially extra-planetary travel; I mean… it seems like that would defeat the purpose.

No matter the actual intended meaning behind the work, Geddes has a brilliant imagination and his work is completely unique in an age where it seems everything has been done.
