Featured Band: Love Darling

“For me success as a career musician would be doing what I love everyday, traveling the world and doing music.”-Shay Magro
Last Wednesday Los Angeles’ up and coming indie-rock group, Love Darling came to BANGSTYLE’s headquarters in downtown Los Angeles and greeted our staff with big smiles and a laid back attitude. We had a nice chat with them about the past, present, and future of their musical explorations.
Love Darling got together roughly a year and a half ago, initially with a different drummer who didn’t work out; but luckily enough they found Christian on a Youtube video rocking out with his makeshift drum set. From there it was all success, most notably with several of their songs being featured on Showtime’s premiere series “The Real L Word”, and their music video for “Unbelievable” being featured on Fuse TV.
Although Love Darling got a huge response from television exposure, they made it clear that their definition of success is more authentic than that:
“For me success as a career musician would be doing what I love everyday, traveling the world and doing music,” said lead vocalist and guitarist Shay Magro. “At the end of the day, it’s all about the song,” she adds.

“We have great chemistry.” says Magro when asked about their group dynamics, “it’s very easy, very laid back”.
The band described their writing process as more of a spontaneous thing; getting their favorite song ideas on the table just from picking up their instruments before practicing.
“With Love Darling it almost feels like I’m just working with two more minds,” says drummer Christian Trujillo.
With an inspiring independent attitude and set of methods, Love Darling is really taking the indie music scene by storm. “We do everything on our own” the band laughs describing their experience with self made music and videos from their home studio. After their first three EP’s, Pawnshop Radio ON (2009), Sunshine Dust (2010), and You Hold a Welcoming Texture (2010); Love Darling strives to continue their hard-driving yet smart and thoughtful sound with a full-length titled The Occupant Theory.
The group is currently in the process of trying to release The Occupant Theory completely on their own using Kick Starter; where you can pre-order the album and help them reach their $7,500 goal.
“As an independent band, we are funding this project ourselves, so your generous pledges will allow us to afford the equipment, studio time, and spare bits and bobs to record and release our first full length album!! All money raised will be going to cover all studio expenses (recording, mixing, mastering), vinyl duplication expenses, promotion/marketing expenses and any additional funds left over will be going to support Mike’s recent odd addiction/obsession with collecting rare Barry Manilow B-sides on 8-track cassette. It makes him happy, so we just go along with it.”
