Featured Entrepreneur: Boomcases’ Dominic Odbert

Tired of your shwag D battery-powered plastic boom box? Need an awesome boombox that combines functionality and swag? Look no further. Dominic Odbert’s “Boomcases” have been generating a ton of buzz–or should i say boom–for quite some time now. Boomcase puts an incredible spin on the classic boombox by setting the system up inside a stylish vintage suitcase. These innovative sound systems are highly portable, have a long battery life, and have a very high quality sound.
“People and companies have been sticking speakers in suitcases since the 1950s”
We recently sat down with Boomcase Founder, Dominic Odbert to learn more about the incredible product and to find out where we could get our own!
BANGSTYLE: Good to sit down with you Dominic. Thanks for sharing your time with us. So, what was the inspiration behind the name BoomCase?
DOMINIC: Of course, Anytime. My brother and I have been making portable sound systems since I can remember. From our “Temple of Boom” to “Baby Boom” to the BoomCase. We just seem to put “Boom” in the name of everything we make.
BANGSTYLE: What makes BoomCases special/unique?
DOMINIC: The BoomCase sets it self apart from ordinary Boomboxes in every way possible; it’s made into a stylish vintage suitcase. It has a built-in rechargeable battery that lasts over 10 hours on a charge. It’s lighter than any BoomBox on the market (they range from 9 – 15lbs ) and they actually sound good. Because vintage suitcases are made out of solid wood, they have excellent acoustics- 100% times better than plastic. Wood = a much richer balanced sound.
BANGSTYLE: We love the product. What made you think of it?
DOMINIC: While we already had a few different “portable” speaker systems, none were “easily” portable. We needed something that was light, loud and had a decent battery life. People and companies have been sticking speakers in suitcases since the 1950s. Check out these. You would also see old car collectors stick their sound systems in suitcases that matched their car to create a “clean” look without having to stick a modern stereo in the dash. I grew up around antiques and cars so I saw these growing up. Finally when the time came to make a new speaker system, we grabbed a suitcase.
BANGSTYLE: What is the easiest way for someone to buy a BoomCase?
DOMINIC: Visit http://store.theboomcase.com . We ship ‘em out all the time, even internationally.
BANGSTYLE: Do you have a favorite BoomCase, if so, which one?
DOMINIC: That’s tough. We have made so many amazing ones. One that I cant deny is the Area 51. Its simply nuts..you will most likely never ever see speakers like these. They only made 250 a year for a few years. Thumpinator is a good one too.
BANGSTYLE: Which BoomCase is the most popular?
DOMINIC: Our very portable 50 Watt Samsonite Classic case. It’s light , small and packs a big punch.
BANGSTYLE: Other than BoomCase, what else do you spend your time on?
DOMINIC: Hanging out with Xyrus and Mary-Anne
(Son and Wife). Eating- I love Food. Listening to the Falcons. I was attending Graduate school for my Masters in Fine Art but I left school to pursue the BoomCase.
BANGSTYLE: Okay, thanks Dominic. Any last comments about your amazing product?
DOMINIC: You’re welcome. Sound Quality is our number one goal. If a BoomCase doesn’t sound good, we won’t sell it.
