Just Do It: The Smoky Eye
If you’re at all like me, then you’re probably semi obsessed with the smoky eye look, but being obsessed and actually knowing how to do one are two different things. I’ve enlisted the help once again of my trusty makeup guru, Jessica Hofmann of Lovestruck Makeup Artistry once again to give us her secrets on achieving the Perfect Smoky Eye:
Jessica explains that it’s best to always start with the eyes first. This makes it easier to achieve that clean line underneath the eye with a bright concealer.
- Choose a nude or light pink lipstick for the lips. Doing a dark eye, you want that to be the focus of the face.
- This year’s most popular trend is colored toned smoky eyes or jewel-tones. Try a dark green, blue or purple.
You’ll need:
1. Primer
2. Gel Liner in Black
3. Mascara
4. Two shadow colors. One light and one dark.
Below are Jessica’s step-by- step instructions:
1. Start with your primer. Apply a full face primer and an eye primer over the lids. This helps keep shadow from smudging and crinkling in the crease.
2. Apply the lighter color you are working with (in this case let’s say gray) all over the lid and up to the crease (choose any dark pigmented color of your choice for the colored smoky eye which seems to be very popular this year).
3. Once you have your gray color evenly applied over the lids, add the darker color to the crease and outside the corners of your eye. Make sure you blend your colors! Blending is key for the perfect smoky eye. This will give you that “open eye” look.
4. Add your gel liner across the lash line, on the top and bottom. While the gel is still wet, use another brush to smudge and pull the liner up onto the lid. This will darken and give the eye that extra smoky look you are going for.
5. Curl lashes and add mascara in the blackest black color you can find. Let the mascara dry for about 30 seconds and apply a few more layers.
