Lessons From Fashion’s Favorite Twins
1 I have spent most of my life idolizing the bohemian chic style of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. It seems like they’ve got it all – style, class, and beauty to boot. They have an incredibly unique sense of style that somehow, always looks put together. MK&A have more than made their mark in Hollywood and I think we could all stand to steal a page or two from their fashion playbook.
Lesson #1: The Right And Wrong Way To Layer
No matter what anyone tells you, there IS a right and wrong way to layer your clothes, and the Olsen girls are queens when it comes to doing it right. Layering can mean pairing just the right hat, necklace, and pair of shades together to polish off an edgy look (left), or layering can take a more simple form by throwing a chunky knit over a funky dress.
Lesson #2: Fashion Is A Statement
It takes years to truly develop your fashion voice, so don’t worry if your style hasn’t quite yet taken on a lust-worthy state. Mary Kate and Ashley teach us that wherever you are, what you are wearing makes a statement about who you are. Ladies, let your personality shine through your wardrobe!

At the 2010 Elle Style Awards, Mary Kate and Ashley were photographed in beautiful gowns that featured a see through skirt overlay. Sheer maxi skirts and dresses were absolutely everywhere during the 2011 Fall/Winter runway shows. Daring to be different, the twins prove once again that their fashion forecasting is right on the money.
Lesson #4: There Is No Expiration On Elegance
Black and white are two colors that will never go out of style. In a world that is constantly looking forward to the next big thing, it is comforting to know that foundational elements of elegance will continue to remain the same.
