Barbie gets artsy! Yup, the iconic doll with impossible anatomy gets a bad-girl makeover, donning tattoos and a chic new pink ‘do! Parents everywhere are pissed (surprise).

The new collectors edition Barbie named “Tokidoki Barbie” has parents in a huff, worried that it might inspire bad behavior in their children. I mean, it’s not like Barbie isn’t already responsible for eating disorders and unrealistic expectations in children that could only lead them into a downward spiral of depression, materialism, and the misguided choice to wear frosted pink lipstick.

“I doubt that Mattel is marketing the doll towards that demographic, so chill out, mom and dad”

I love the new Barbie. I think she’s pretty, and not just because I am fully “sleeved” myself- I think self expression is healthy. Being different is a good thing, and times are a-changing…

One parental complaint was: “If I give it to [my daughter] she will think [tattoos are] okay. She may want to go get some. It’s teaching kids to want tattoos before they are old enough to dress like that.”

Mattel reps argue,”Barbie has sported an endless array of styles. Many of Barbie’s most pop-culture couture outfits have been designed for the adult doll collector. The Tokidoki Barbie is a perfect example of a limited-edition doll sold through select retail locations.”

The new Barbie is available through BarbieCollector.com for $50, but anyone looking to make a purchase will have to wait until November because it’s SOLD OUT!

Yeah, that doll costs more than the allowance of any child under 16 I’ve ever met. I doubt that Mattel is marketing the doll towards that demographic, so chill out, mom and dad.
