Two Year Old Run Over Twice, 18 People Ignore Her As She Bleeds
I shake with anger as I write this post. A two year old toddler lies brain dead and in a coma at the Guandong Province hospital after being hit by not one, but TWO vehicles in consecutive hit and runs while passers-by do nothing to help her.
Apparently the little girl broke away from her mother who was shopping at a nearby hardware market in Foshan City when she was hit by the first van, and then hit a second time by a truck driver minutes later. Neither driver, nor the 18 people that passed by the little girl, laying helpless on the street, came to her aid. Finally, a woman who is reported to be a 57 year old trash collector picked up the child and dragged her out of harms way as her frantic mother rushed to her side. The trash collector asked passersby to help her, to no avail. The girls mother was the one who finally placed the call to the ambulance.

The China Daily reported that the little girl, Yueyue Wang is brain dead. “I just hope my child will wake up and call me Dad again,” said her father. Wang is currently in an intensive-care unit.

One has to wonder, WTF China? Have your people become so desensitized that you are able to watch a little girl bleed to death without any assistance from the community around her? ”The indifference from one or two people may be acceptable. But 18 people? Doesn’t this say something about the local culture?” said Li Hongbo on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like micro-blogging service. “I am extremely disappointed by the moral standards in China.”
Really Li Hongbo?! This is not acceptable behavior from ANYONE.
“Stop the Indifference” was the top trending topic on Weibo the day after the incident was reported. There has been speculation that the country’s obsession with money and economic prosperity is to blame for the numb indifference of its people.”China as a nation has lost its passion and is beyond hope. It’s a nation that can sell its soul for money,” said Haowu Yiyi on Weibo.
Well, I live in America– we’re capitalists–and we’re in pretty bad shape– but, I’m still pretty sure people here would stop for a bleeding child in the street.
I guess this could be blamed on the fact that China has no “Good Samaritan-style” law; many do not stop to help in fear that they will be blamed for the accident. With that said, various government agencies in Foshan gave about $4,000 to the trash collector who helped Wang. The woman, who’s name remains anonymous, has stated to local media that she will give the reward to the family of the injured girl.
Both drivers have been apprehended by police, according to the Guangzhou Daily.
