Pregnant Woman Has a Craving For Roadkill
I suppose it’s not far off from hunting for game, but you usually don’t see a civilized person, let alone a pregnant one, scurrying to get their dinner off of the road. That’s right, Alison Brierley is an artist, taxidermist, and soon-to-be mother with a new found affinity for cooking up murdered pigeons, owls, deer, and other animals that she find dead on the street.
“I get the best meat from friends who ring me up to tell me about a kill they’ve spotted on their way to work,” said Brierly to Metro UK.
But apparently her alleged most bizarre pregnancy craving of all time isn’t actually all that recent. During a chat with The Daily Mail, Brierly stated that she has in fact indulged in a roadkill entree before her pregnancy, it has only just increased the craving for it drastically. She is actually loud and proud about her craving and tells The Daily Mail why she has been so open to the public about such a thing:
“One of the big reasons for being public about this is that I want to raise awareness about where food actually comes from”, said Alison.
“Some people are so blasé about picking their food off a supermarket shelf without giving a thought to how it lived or how it was killed.”
So I suppose the lesson learned is not to be so judgmental, because after hearing that Brierly wasn’t just some nut-job into something so strange, to my surprise I gained some respect for her point of view. The meat we eat in society is quite disgustingly prepared, as made apparent by several documentaries; so, with her knowledge from taxidermy and the anatomy of animals, Brierly may actually be eating a cleaner and more well prepared meal than any of us.
After taking a look at these photos, it was obvious that the first image in my head of a woman gnawing on dead animal was far off:
