Pharrell and Hans Zimmer to Supervise Music at the Oscars

Next year’s Academy Awards Ceremony on February 26th will add on a new position to the show- musical supervisors. Rapper/singer and hip-hop producer, Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D. and The Neptunes will join forces with German film composer, Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Inception) will serve as musical consultants for the upcoming ceremony. This will also be the first time that the awards show will feature music beyond the hosting of nominated songs or performances that commemorate a deceased Hollywood star.
This is a very interesting combination of people to be doing something so official together. It seems to be a more likely and appropriate title to be given to Zimmer, whose very widely established and renowned, actually winning an Academy Award for his work on The Lion King and receiving eight other nominations. Although Pharrell has won a Grammy for his score on the 2010 animation film, Despicable Me, he is clearly in a very different classification of work than Zimmer. Needless to say, it will be interesting seeing what this title entails and hearing how the two work together.
