5 Highly Anticipated 2012 Album Releases
We just finished our 2011 album retrospective here at BANGSTYLE, and we’re already looking forward to getting our hands on these new releases in the New Year. Check out 5 albums we can’t wait to hear in 2012.
Andrew Bird
BREAK IT YOURSELF – March 6

Indie-rocker Andrew Bird has been on a bit of a hiatus. But good things take time, and we expect great things from Mr. Bird in 2012. The new album, out on Mom + Pop recordings, will accompany a North American Tour.
The Shins
PORT OF MORROW – March
Following a long break to focus on solo-projects, popular indie band, The Shins, headlined popular summer music festivals. I saw them at Outside Lands in San Francisco and fell in love all over again. While they’ve been mum on the details of the new album, Pitchfork reports it will be released in March. This will be the band’s first album since 2007′s, Wincing the Night Away. Listen to a single off of the new album called “Simple Song” here.
Lana Del Rey
BORN TO DIE - January 31
2011 was quite a year for indie-hottie Lana Del Rey. While she’s been around the music scene for awhile, it seemed like she blew up overnight after a Pitchfork post praised her unique voice and nostalgic look. Two hit singles and one U.S. tour later, the New York City native is releasing her first album eerily titled Born To Die. Hit songs “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans” will be on the 12-track album. Islands
A SLEEP & A FORGETTING - February 14
Canadian avant-pop outfit, Islands, are set to release their fourth album on Valentine’s Day. Along with the album announcement, they released a song called “This is Not a Song,” which you can listen to on Pitchfork. Expect some romantic beats on this exciting new album.
Chromatics
Kill For Love - January
Chromatics made it big when they appeared on the soundtrack of the hit movie starring Ryan Gosling, Drive. Now, the Portland-based foursome are releasing their 13-track album via Italians Do It Better later this month. View the video for their single “Kill For Love” here.
