Drummer and Songwriter J. Tillman Leaves Fleet Foxes

A post on Tumblr yesterday revealed to the public that Joshua Tillman, the drummer of Fleet Foxes has left the band in order to pursue his own music. “Back into the gaping maw of obscurity I go,” the former drummer wrote in the post. “Tokyo is my last show with the Foxes. Sorry if I was distant and obtuse if we ever met. Have fun.”
The tone of the goodbye message is rather hard to figure out, and I think most of us are very curious what all of the motives were behind the change. With those beautiful angelic voices, it would be hard to imagine that the legendary folk outfit ever get into brawls.
If you would like to see the last show with the current Fleet Foxes lineup, you’ll have to travel over to the Studio Coast in Tokyo (unless you live there of course).
In case you were curious about what Tillman’s work apart from Fleet Foxes will be like, he’s actually released a lot of material outside of the well-known Seattle band. Joining Fleet Foxes in 2008, the well-rounded musician has released three different solo albums–including 2010′s Singing Axe, 2009′s Vacilando Territory Blues, and an older record titled Year In the Kingdom, all of which were signed on Western Vinyl.
Other members of Fleet Foxes are directing their focus elsewhere. The Sub Pop label has just signed Poor Moon, another Seattle band that includes another two members of Fleet Foxes, Christian Wargo and Casey Wescott. Poor Moon is touring with Lost In the Trees this spring. Check out some dates for that below:
