Police Ticket Six Year Old For Reckless Driving While On Toy Motorcycle

Reckless driving tickets are nothing out of the ordinary, but one case of alleged reckless driving is making headlines this week. Six-year-old Gael Noriega was ticketed for reckless driving, driving without a license and not having his vehicle registered in the border city of Ciudad Juarez after he reportedly crashed into an SUV with his toy motorcycle on December 27.
Gael’s mother, Karla Noriega, said police impounded the boy’s miniature gasoline-powered motorbike after he crashed into an SUV on Dec. 27. The toy motorbike was a Christmas present.
After being fined what she called a “ridiculous” $183 in fees, Karla Noriega decided to make the case public by going to the media. Noriega expressed her frustration at being unable to pick up the vehicle until the fine was paid.
City council Secretary Hector Arceluz said Thursday that authorities had dropped the fines and released the motorbike. Arceluz also said that authorities would punish the police officers for having acted improperly.
Although Gael Noriega was thrilled to get his motorbike back after the incident, he said it is no longer operational after the accident.
