Sanaa Lathan – The New (Black) Face of Pantene
The beauty industry is seeing a booming market that is centered around many women of color. It’s exciting to see actress Sanaa Lathan as Procter & Gamble’s new face for their Pantene’s Pro-V Nature Fusions collection.
The 40-year-old fresh-faced beauty was a natural choice for the company. They believe the actress appeals to a wide audience of women from all backgrounds.
An excited Lathan gave this statement at he launch event:
“Throughout my life, Pantene has been one of the few hair care brands that effectively address the specific needs of my hair texture…. It is great that, as a black woman, I can look to a brand like Pantene to provide my hair with the nourishment it needs. I am so excited to be a part of a brand with such a strong history and people just love their products; it’s such a respected brand. I love that they went for a Black woman. It just shows that they continue to support beauty in all shades and all textures.”
The advertisements hitting newsstands this month include the tagline: “It’s in our nature to be strong and balanced,” apropos for Lathan, an actress known for portraying strong on-screen characters in such movies at Contagion.
Pantene expects big things from the Lathan collaboration as they launch a new line that combines the already well-received Pantene formula with Cassia, a plant that has properties said to make the hair stronger.
The actress-turned-commercial-spokesmodel says that Pantene has always been her product of choice and in a press release from Pantene, it seems the feeling is mutual as the company claims to have admired Lathans’s locks from afar for many years and look forward to sharing her beauty tips with the world.
Lathan may be the newest face of Pantene, but the actress isn’t trading commercials exclusively for the big screen as Lathan is set to appear opposite ForestWhitaker and Anthony Mackie in “Vipaka.”
