Sweden Creates QR-Code Condom

bangstyle.com today Sweden Creates QR Code Condom “How are you getting laid this summer?”

Thanks to a new Swedish condom, there’s an app that answers that.

When the Stockholm County AIDS Prevention Programme approached Swedish advertising agency Ester last summer troubled by Sweden’s behavior between the sheets, (its 20-30s youth are among the worst in Europe for practicing safe sex, the study reports), Ester developed a panty-dropping solution: have more (safe) sex.

Here’s how they did it:

Rather than boring the public with the routine straight-laced sex talk or unimaginative statistics, the agency set out to make fornicating with protection fun. They created the Condom08, a condom packaged with a QR code that when scanned, led users to an app website called  ”The Sex Profile.” Ester then distributed 50,000 free condoms to seduce its target audience into consensual participation.

Prior to sex, couples were asked to open the app and place the iPhone on the bed. Based on a calculation of rhythm, sound and duration, combined with a personal profile filled out in lieu of the post-coital cuddle, the app determined the partners’ sexual style and preferences. These were posted on The Sex Profile website, where users could measure where they stood (literally) against other contestants.

Ester took the best and the lewdest for a salacious print advertising campaign, soliciting Stockholm with juicy tidbits like, “Restless Brunettes Are Losing Speed,” and “Jazzy Gemini Endured 3 Minutes This Morning.”

The results were promiscuous.

By the end of the summer, 5,900 Swedes registered themselves on The Sex Profile, and up to 39% of these said they were “more positive” to condoms than they had been before they could find out the “average sound level for Sodermalm in a weekend.”

Ester reports the numbers “exceeded their goal for the campaign by 98%.”

After the campaign’s sensational success in Sweden, the country pulled out the Condom08′s results to the rest of the world today, Business Insider reports. Whether or not the Condom08 will be manufactured and distributed for wide release remains to be seen, but there’s nothing prude about Ester’s hot-and-heavy stats.

And if the condom causes couples to think twice about practicing safe sex when the birds are chirping and the bees are humming, it’s guaranteed to score.

When I was a little girl, I aspired to be Harriet the Spy. From the moment I received my first “spy” notebook as a relentlessly inquisitive seven-year-old, I have been captivated by the art of telling stories. I transformed my spiral notebook into a bonafide spy journal, allied myself with my cousins and sister, and meticulously reported on the peculiarities of late-night card games during family gatherings. I'm simultaneously writer and editor, listener and conversationalist, adventurer and foodie, traveler and homebody, cat and dog lover, realist and optimist. My diplomacy stems not from a lack of decision-making but an openness to new experiences and an incurable curiosity. If I weren't a stubbornly passionate storyteller, I'd probably be a spy.
