Colleges with the Hottest Students

Date My School is a college dating site founded by two MBA students at Columbia. Balazs Aexa and Jean Meyer wanted to connect college singles with each other through like interests — think Match.com for coeds.
While most would assume love is the last thing a college student is looking for, the site has been a huge success. Date My School boasts nearly 100,000 users. It is now ”the largest college dating website ever,” according to Shreshth Dugar, the site’s marketing director.
The Columbia students started the site because they are part of what they call a ‘lonely generation.’ “People in the 21st century are alone,” Mr. Meyer told the New York Times. “We have so many new ways of communicating, yet we are so alone.”
In our world of virtual communication, it is no wonder that so many people attempt to find love through social networking sites. Less than half of all adults are married in the U.S., so more people than ever are looking for love.
Unlike other social networking sites, Date My School has a highly selective function that allows users to personalize what they are looking for in a mate. ”Through the search function one can specify religion and body type,” the New York Times reported.
“The selectivity can sound a bit shallow. I have a friend who is visible only to law, business, engineering, and med students at Columbia. One could say she wants to meet men who have a solid, lucrative future ahead of them, but I also think she wants to meet men who are responsible, men who have a plan, know themselves and know what they want from life,” said Dominique Lefebvre, 24, a film student at Columbia.
The site has been live since December 2010, and Meyer and Aexa have collected information from users to find out which colleges have the hottest student population. “If the men or women at a university are deemed ‘hot’ by this ranking, it means their profile photos are most frequently saved by others, accounting for differences in numbers of users at each school,” the Atlantic Wire reported.
