Jack in the Box Makes Bacon Milkshake

If you ever worried you wouldn’t be able to bring home the bacon, fear not. It will now only cost you approximately $3.25, with tax. That’s if you swing by Jack in the Box post-work to slurp down the fast food chain’s just-released ‘Bacon Shake’ in a large size. Nope, it is not a rumor. Just check their menu.
The new item comes amidst a blizzard of disturbing food news, not the least of which includes a McNugget diet and an announcement by McDonald’s that they will stop using ‘pink slime’ meat (did anyone know they were using it in the first place?)
Jack in the Box has been linked to copycatting Denny’s Maple Bacon Sundae, which attempted to have people salivating last May. Jack’s new bacon advertising campaign also suggests some foul food play–it’s suspiciously similar to Denny’s “We Did WHAT with Bacon?,” in which the other food chain you’d only consider after seven drinks and 2 a.m. attempted to promote a series of baconed-out items on its menu.
Jack’s Bacon Milkshake is part of an advertising series called, “If You Love Bacon So Much, Why Don’t You Marry It?” So you can literally bring home the bacon too if you’d prefer to follow suit of the young man in the movie and “eat the bride.” (If interested, visit marrybacon.com).
Moving on. The milkshake is a supplement to Jack’s new BLT cheeseburger and packs a meaty 773 calories, though it does come with a cherry on top.
There’s no word yet on why fast food chains seem to think combining bacon and dairy is a brilliant idea, but perhaps the recent foodie trend of pairing the former hangover-breakfast food with desserts is to blame. (See Food Network’s Bacon Cupcake Recipe and Nickel Diner’s Maple Bacon Donut). Yet gourmands, beware: if you’re seeking that true bacon flavor, Jack in the Box may disappoint.
“Real bacon? Ugh no. It’s just a flavored shake, flavored with syrup, I think,” a Jack’s store manager reported to the SFist.
While the milkshake has certainly done its job in generating hype, it’s doubtful many will be beggin’ for it any time soon.
