Lou Reed Embarks On Euro Tour

Lou Reed is either so genius that he is beyond the curve and all of these seemingly radical moronic decisions are truly acts of a human being working on a whole other level. Granted, Reed has never been orthodox, building the super iconic Velvet Underground from the ground up and then promptly quitting at the height of the band’s popularity to begin a solo career where he emulated everything David Bowie did. So Meta, Lou.
Last year it was announced that Reed was working on a concept album with one-time thrash-metal titans Metallica (who now reside in the realm of aggressive dad-rock). Everyone, including myself, balked at the news and all hoped it was the greatest joke that didn’t fall on April Fool’s. No dice, though, because it was real and the finished album, Lulu, was as bad as it sounds on paper.
If you’re one of the niche people who loved the record or have the patience to tolerate Reed’s downright off-putting demeanor (acquiring a reputation as one of the most obtuse, confrontational interviews since Bob Dylan, but minus the wit), then you’re in luck! Starting in June, Reed, not accompanied by Metallica, will embark on a European tour. The trek, which is being called “From VU To Lulu” tour (in reference to the Velvet Underground material to the Metallic collaboration), will feature Reed playing a career-spanning set with a small band. It’s probably safe to say that the crushingly inane riffs found on the Lulu album will have a subdued feel without Metallic around.
Even though this news probably won’t help many of you reading this since you’re probably living in North America, summer is the time that people take European vacations, so if you’re around and feel like seeing a living legend who is maniacally intent on degrading his legacy one bad decision at a time, check it out. Who knows, maybe one of the nights he’ll get his head together and play The Velvet Underground and Nico or Transformer in their entirety, navigating away from the schlock of Lulu.
