Sid and Nancy have become a cultural icon for the downfall of the punk movement. Sex Pistols’ bassist Sid Vicious and clinger-on Nancy Spungen, were the poster-couple of a dysfunctional relationship. Heavy drug use and physical abuse ultimately lead to the couples tragic demise, which is well chronicled in the 1986 biopic, Sid & Nancy. Their Romeo and Juliet punk-rock story ended in a mysterious murder/suicide. Now, the short-lived relationship is a thing of urban legend, and this week — a revealing letter gives fans a glimpse into their relationship.
The note is written like a young Romeo in love for the first time. Scribbled with affection, the note reads:

Okay, so Vicious gets a bit pervy toward the end. While “a great huslter” doesn’t make most people’s non-negotiable list, the list in its entirety is rather normal for the notoriously crazy couple. Just a few months after this note was written, they met their Shakespearean fate — Nancy was stabbed to death (by Sid), and Sid was charged with murder (he died of a self-inflicted heroin overdose before the trial). This note shows that the star-crossed lovers did share some good times before their hustlin’ ways caught up with them.
