Will Ferrell’s Old Milwuakee Super Bowl Commercial
Personally, I felt this year’s Super Bowl commercials were a little lackluster. Maybe this is attributed to Bud Light and Doritos not “bringing it” as hard as previous years or possibly because I was too busy drinking, but commercial ratings aside, one thing that can definitely be said is there were a lot of celebrity endorsements. The big ones being David Beckham’s underwear ad, Matthew Broderick bringing back Ferris Buller, Jerry Seinfeld trying to get an Acura, and of course Will Ferrell.
Oh, you don’t remember seeing Will Ferrell? Well, that’s because his ad only aired in Nebraska, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In case you forgot, or didn’t read this, Will Ferrell has quietly been doing commercials for Old Milwaukee beer.
The commercials perfectly compliment the beer: cheap and overlooked. Despite my feelings towards Old Milwuakee, the commercials are actually pretty hilarious, which I’m sure can be attributed to a combination of surprise, randomness, and Will Ferrell. The Super Bowl spot stayed in the vein of the previous commercials, in that a case of Old Milwaukee probably cost about the same as the production budget.
Lucky for the rest of us that do not live in Nebraska, Ferrell’s Funny or Die posted the commercial on its Tumblr saying, “No list of best Super Bowl commercials would be complete without this big-budget gem that only aired in Nebraska.”
If your dream is to have Will Ferrell slowly walking towards you through a field, then you should probably watch this immediately. After spending about 25 of the 30 seconds of the spot’s runtime doing his slow motion walk towards the camera, Ferrell stops and is thrown a beer from off-screen. He cracks it open and opens his mouth to deliver what I can only assume is the second greatest punch line you or I would ever hear, and just then the commercial is cut off by a spot for the local news delivering the first greatest punch line. I have a very strong hunch that getting cut off was no accident.
You probably don’t want to drink Old Milwaukee, but you can still enjoy this little piece of comedy from Will Ferrell.
