If someone was perhaps looking for a movie that had several of the elite British actors all in one place, they would have to look no further than The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. This movie has it all: comedy, drama, and spectacular actors. It releases on May 4, to limited theaters, and it would be advised to be on the lookout for this film.
The Marigold Hotel is supposed to be the ideal place for retired seniors; but when these retirees find themselves on the hotel’s doorsteps looking for some sort of reawakening, they realize the place needs more than a little help. The story is brought to life by the likes of Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Judi Dench, and Tom Wilkinson.
The hotel’s caretaker, Sonny, played by Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), is hoping to revitalize the hotel and give the elderly something more to live for. When a batch of retirees arrives, they are expecting so much more from the hotel’s advertising. But they learn that, although it may not have all that was advertised, India and the hotel had everything they needed after all.
Rotten Tomatoes gives the movie a 77% rating from critics and an 81% rating from audience members. One review said, “You are never too old for the cinema. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel proves there is life in the old stars yet. Maggie Smith, Judi Dench and, Tom Wilkinson serve up an Indian delight.”
If there is any reason to go see this movie, it would definitely have to be the actors. Seeing such spectacular stars all combined in one film is brilliant. All of them possess such humor and heart that even with the small flaws in the film, it is easy to overlook them and just sit in awe of so many breathtaking actors of this era in one place.
