DIY: The Matte French Manicure
Matte nails have been a trend for months now; but when I’ve done them on my own nails, I haven’t been totally happy with the overall appearance–I mean, the best part about getting a manicure is how shiny your nails look when you leave.
Although this is true (opinions anyone?), a matte French manicure is a totally different route to take that looks seriously amazing.
The nails are super-easy to do once you have everything you need as long as you wait as long as you can before applying the tip guides (I messed up a few times when I got a little too eager).
Here’s what you’ll need to get this look:
Step 1: Apply a base coat on your nails, and wait for it to dry completely.
Step 2: Apply two coats of your black nail polish to the entire nail.
Step 3: Apply a top coat to the entire nail, and wait for it to dry.
Step 4: When nails are completely dry (let me stress the “completely”), apply the French manicure tip guides to the tips of your nails. They won’t fit exactly to your nail, and that won’t matter as long as you put them on slowly and evenly.
Step 5: Apply a thin coat of matte finish on your nails.
Step 6: Wait 5-10 minutes (so nails are pretty much dry), and remove the tip guides slowly.
I believe this is one of the easier DIY manicures I’ve tried; trust me, your nails will come out looking absolutely amazing, and you can literally do this with any color you like…it’s such a fun twist on a typical French manicure!
