“Dumb and Dumber 2″ Is on Its Way!

A year from now this could turn out to be the best or the worst news that could come out of Hollywood in awhile. We all remember the atrocity that was Dumb and Dumberer (or maybe you don’t and I envy you), and we couldn’t put our finger on why in the name of all that is great in comedy that someone would green-light a prequel to one of the greatest comedies of all-time without the original directors onboard. It was a sad time for anyone that has come to love the original, Dumb and Dumber, a film that almost single-handedly jet-packed Jim Carey to super-stardom.
Thankfully, the studio and the original directors, the Farrelly Brothers, are getting a chance to set things right. According to Peter Farrelly, not only are he and his brother making a sequel to their 1994 classic, but also they have indeed locked up Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels to return to their starring roles.
As a fan I am shocked, terrified, and excited about this news. I suppose this is the natural reaction to something that has so defined memories of your childhood and a film that is still as hilarious to you 18 years later from the first time you saw it. However, if anyone is going to be able to create something equally (or dare I say, better) than the original, while washing the bitter taste of the prequel out of my mouth, it is the Farrelly Brothers, Carey, and Daniels.
According to a statement by Farrelly, he and his brother will release their newest film, The Three Stooges (which, by the way, looks pretty bad itself), finish press for it, and then in September of this year will begin shooting the long-awaited sequel.
No official title has been released for the upcoming Carey-Daniels vehicle, but it has been confirmed that a finished script is in the bag, which was written by Sean Anders and John Morris. Let’s cross our fingers for a film that is at least on par with one of the greatest comedies of the postmodern age.
