Sonya Dakar’s Gluten-Free Skincare Line
Well known facialist to the stars, Sonya Dakar, has announced a new line that takes beauty to a whole new level–a gluten-free skincare line.
Known for a brand that caters to her clients’ personal needs and wants and adding everything that is good for your skin into her exclusive products, Dakar’s new line, BODY by Sonya Dakar Skincare, is full of antioxidants and botanicals catering to the gluten-free customer.
Although this is exciting news, it still makes me want to ask a question…that question being “why?”
Gluten proteins can only be absorbed into your body through the gastrointestinal tract. The skin can react to other compounds found in wheat, but when a person is sensitive to gluten products, they are not sensitive externally–only internally, meaning that if you haven’t eaten it, you’re not going to react to it, even if it’s all over your bod.
Six percent of the population suffers from different types of gluten intolerance diseases and to be realistic, buying pricey products that are gluten-free aren’t going to do anything except give you a little peace of mind.
Wheat protein can make you bloated, gain weight, and prompt sickness. Today, carbs have become the enemy–we associate them with weight gain, feeling like crap, and breaking out–that’s why there are so many books, videos, and online sites about alternative ways of eating. Think about all the diets out there that have been created that completely zero out any type of carbohydrate–there are a ton on the market.
Either way, although I love Dakar’s products, I’m seriously starting to get frustrated with all of the gimmicks out there these days; it seems like every day that I learn about some “new and innovative” beauty treatment that is simply a ploy to get your hard earned moolah.
Listen up–if you MUST try a gluten-free skincare product, try some of the less expensive brands that offer an alternative. Brands like Cover Girl, Neutrogena, and more offer gluten-free lines, and they’re just as good in my opinion.
Stick with what you love, people–whatever that may be.
