Marc Jacobs Announces Upcoming Makeup Line

Although he already takes care of all of our jewelry, clothing, shoe, scent, and handbag needs, Marc Jacobs has announced a new project: a color cosmetics line. Working with Sephora to create the line, Jacobs seems as excited as most of us are when hearing the news. During an interview for his newest scent, Dot, he said, “Anything to me that is part of the joy, the ritual, of getting dressed — things for me — things that women enjoy like bags, shoes, fragrance, clothes, makeup — that’s what fashion’s about for me. I love the opportunity, wherever there is one, to adorn, to decorate, to scent, to dress. That’s what fashion’s all about. It’s not necessary, it’s something you want — it’s a fancy and a whim.”
When I think Marc Jacobs, I think of bold colors, creative packaging, and sometimes provocative advertising. I’m interested in seeing what he’s going to do to separate this line from the other celebrity makeup collections that have been launched this year.
Although he had his first meeting for the color line just last week, Jacobs explained, “I see makeup, fragrance — everything really — as an opportunity. The idea of choosing a color for your lip, or an eyeliner — it’s just such a delight. The ritual of waking up and making these choices is something people really enjoy. We currently are working on defining what Marc Jacobs cosmetics will be, what they’ll say, what makes them distinctive. I think that will take some time, but the first meeting was good.”
So you’re saying the man that takes his end-of-show bows in skirts can now do it wearing lipstick? Sounds like fun to me.
