Beth Ditto For MAC Out Now
On June 7th, the long-awaited MAC and Beth Ditto collaboration collection was released. Beth Ditto, with her unique punky persona, is the perfect choice for the most recent celeb-inspired collection for MAC. Most recognized as the lead singer for the indie rock group Gossip, Beth Ditto has also participated in a lot of activism for LGBT and feminist issues, once appearing nude on the cover of Love Magazine as a stand against women’s body issues. So far, it seems that Beth Ditto is the most interesting and least predictable choice for a MAC limited edition collection.
MAC describes this 25 piece collection as “candy-glossed pop mixed with polished punk sensibility” which seem like the right words for both Beth Ditto and the collection. The vibrant colors of the products combine the wild rebellion of punk and the pretty-girl glam of pop, culminating in a go-to makeup line for girls with a bit of attitude.
The limited edition collection features mascara, false lashes, nail lacquer, eyeliner, lip color, as well as a MAC premier of a shadow/liner stick. This is a dual-ended stick that offers eye shadow on one end and liner on the other which is a great way to save space and time when you take makeup on the go. Of course, the Beth Ditto collection contains a liquid eyeliner because, along with a Sex Pistols T-shirt, liquid liner is a punk mainstay.
Here are some of the stand-out items in the line:
Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Dear Diary- Both fun and rebellious, this neon pink lip shade definitely has the Beth Ditto attitude.
Zoom Lash Mascara in Blue Charge- An edgy electric blue is a great route into the colored mascara makeup trend.
Nail Lacquer in Near Beth Experience- I swear I like this for the actual product, not just the clever pun. This is a creamy, pale yellow polish that is great for summer.
The only item in this limited collection that I’m not ready to rave about is the Powder to the People mystery product. I say mystery because though it looks like a blush compact, the description states that it should be used to highlight your eyes. Whether it’s a necessary addition to your cosmetic collection is questionable, so save those $38 and instead spring for the punky liquid liner.
