Shigeto + Exray’s “Yellow Light” (Remix)
The hot young producer off of Ghosty International, Shigeto, has teamed up with Exray on an eerie new track derivative of the synthesizer-driven music that dominated the underground 90s electronic scene. The three-minute tune is a haunting ride through the minds of musicians who are quickly gaining recognition in the competitive world of EDM for their unique ambient sounds.
The song is a peek into the world of one of the most exciting musicians on the electronic scene today. Shigeto learned his craft while living in London and obsessing over the UK’s electronic music scene. His recent release Lineage is 2012′s answer to Tycho’s Dive. It’s vivid and rhythmic, carrying beauty and meaning through each meticulously crafted song.
In an interview, Shigeto explains how he makes music to honor his heritage. “What better way to honor someone than through your art? It’s like painting a picture of someone you love or dedicating a book to them. It’s not that everything I create will always include some hidden message with my family past intertwined, but I’m always thinking about what happened under the surface. It’s motivation. Something to remind me how good I have it.”
The Brooklyn-based producer is Zach Saginaw when he is not making music, but his pseudonym holds profound meaning that informs his songs. Not only is Shigeto Saninaw’s middle name, it is also the name of his grandfather and draws him closer to the Japanese roots of his family. Connecting past and present, Shigeto’s music is both classic and progressive — bringing infinite elements into his endlessly inspiring music.
