Stop Motion Lego Proposal
Dating an audio-video technician has its benefits, even if he has an unnatural love and appreciation for toy Legos.
Darren Pinder, a twenty-four-year-old who lives with girlfriend, Ariana Gomez, in Brooklyn decided to use his talents and hobbies to create a truly unique proposal experience, one that involved Legos.
Using the classic toys shaped into cubical people that can snap onto tiny bricks, Pinder filmed and edited a stop motion segment of two of the classic toy-people engaging in various activities. In between each activity, like going for a picnic, one of the Lego people would hold up a sign with words written on it, describing the activities.
At the end of the video, the little Lego man dressed in a black tux can be seen holding an engagement ring with the words “Will you marry me?” written to the side of the screen.
The project, which took weeks to complete, turned out to be a worthwhile pursuit as Ariana said yes.
Despite the fact that Pinder had been using their Brooklyn apartment as the film’s studio for months, Gomez never found out about the mini movie being made entirely for her benefit.
According to the Daily Mail, every time Pinder got a spare minute alone, every time Gomez would leave the apartment, he would whip out his equipment and continue filming sequences.
In an email Pinder admitted, “That plan worked out really well because, after several thousand photos and a week’s worth of editing, she was definitely taken by surprise.”
Perhaps the most surprising part of the video was at the end when Pinder filmed himself getting down on one knee and proposing to a very shocked girlfriend who was “freaking out” before she could accept his proposal.
Obviously, being romantic doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go to a fancy restaurant and buy a dozen red roses. All you need is a little creativity and a lot of Legos— and plenty of free time.
