Azealia Banks- “Fantasea” Mixtape (FREE Download!)

If you haven’t already completely fallen in love with Azealia Banks, you better prep your heart for some quality crushing. I’m not going to lie; I was a tad bit annoyed when she pushed the release date for her heavily anticipated mixtape back a full week. I had big plans to stomp around on random picnic tables, waving an American flag to the sounds of Fantasea, but NOooOOOo. It just wasn’t in the stars. So I reset my calendar and patiently awaited for July 11th. The day arrived… no mixtape. I waited all morning and all afternoon– no mixtape. To say I was a bit annoyed is a vast understatement, but as they say, “Good things happen to those who wait,” and despite the technical difficulties, this mixtape truly delivers.
First off, I straight up had a conniption when I heard the first track. A long-time (lifetime?) lover of Prodigy, I was beyond excited to hear that she sampled them to open the mixtape, and knew I was in for an epic dance party. As a whole, the mixtape is just plain fun and flirty, and I’m not just saying that because she sampled some of my favorite tracks in the last five years. Banks has shot to stardom in the past year with very little material to back her up, and I think this could not have come at a better time. I am proud as hell of this chick and think that you all need to give yourself a FREE gift and download Fantasea ASAP.
Will Miss Banks eventually get the mainstream Pop makeover (musically, not style-wise!) that other females of hip hop have received in the past? Yeah, probably, and I’ll most likely roll my eyes and hop off the Banks-Train in response. Call me a hipster all you want, but I did the same thing with Nicki Minaj, who I loved right up till her first studio album (the bubble gum just doesn’t… speak to me, I’m sorry). Fun fact: Banks and Minaj went to the same high school… there’s something in the water over at Laguardia Performing Arts High school, y’all!
In the meantime, I am perfectly content with this mixtape, and I sincerely look forward to what she has in store for her full-length album. Download it for FREE and see for yourself!
