Tips For Flawless Mascara Application
Even on those days I go au naturel with my makeup look, I swipe on some mascara. It is one of those staple beauty items that I cannot go without, along with my tinted moisturizer and my mango scented Burt’s Bees lip balm. Mascara is a necessity for every makeup look from the most dramatic eyes to completely natural looking features and everything in-between, so it is definitely worth knowing the best methods for applying this beauty essential.
Check out this list of my favorite mascara tips that help prolong the life of your favorite tube and make your lashes look fabulous:
Don’t Pump- This is an important piece of information for those with a beauty budget and really any mascara user. Pumping the wand in and out of the tube is a big no-no because it lets air inside the tube, drying out the product way faster than it normally would. If your mascara is relatively new, then you don’t even need to pump the wand because there is plenty of product on the wand already. We don’t want to be breaking the bank on mascaras that we could keep for much longer.
Application For Thick Looking Lashes- The key to getting thick looking lashes is to wiggle the wand back and forth as you brush through your lashes. Start with the wand at the base of your lashes as close to the lash line as you can get, and as you move to the ends with the wand, wiggle it back and forth. This will work to cover every lash and separates them as you go.
Focus On Outer Lashes- For an an eye-widening effect and extra drama, focus on your outer lashes. Once you complete a full coat of mascara over your lashes, go back through your outer lashes to add a little extra flare.
Avoid Clumps- To avoid clumps, check the wand before you apply the mascara. If there are large globs of mascara, use a tissue to remove them so they don’t get stuck to your lashes.
Combine Mascaras- When I want a dramatic eye, I use both a lengthening and volume enhancing mascara. Don’t be afraid to use more than one mascara, especially when they offer different benefits.
Lower Lash Application- If you are going for a natural look, avoid putting mascara on your lower lashes; but when you do choose to wear mascara on your lower lashes, keep it light to prevent under-eye makeup rings. Lightly use the tip of the wand to brush over the outer lower lashes. If you can’t apply it without getting the product on your skin, a handy tip is to put a tissue under your lashes as you apply the mascara.
