Four Summer Ponytail Ideas
The summer season means a constant fight with long, flat, and hot hair. That’s why the ponytail is the ideal hairstyle in the summer; rarely a day goes by that my hair isn’t in some form of this up-do. It is easy to throw your hair up in any old ponytail, but adding a little style to a ponytail makes this easy up-do a comfortable and fashionable choice for any summer event, whether it’s a professional setting or a casual, beach day.
Here are some ponytail hairstyle ideas to try this summer:
Vintage-Inspired Side Ponytail
This side ponytail is a classic look that is always appropriate. Amp up the volume to fully get that retro Brigitte Bardot look. To get this look, start with a deep side part in damp hair. Add any kind of texturizing product to add some volume. Blow dry your hair with a round brush, but be careful not to let it curl too much. Depending on how much of a bouffant look your want, tease the section of hair around the crown of your head. Loosely secure all your hair on the side using a hair tie. Feel free to add some volume in the hair hanging down by using a curling iron.
Romantic Wrap Ponytail
This romantic wrap ponytail can be worn both on a casual day and an evening night out. Start with your hair down with a middle part. Get slight waves by either letting your naturally wavy hair come out, or coax it out with some sea salt spray and a warm curling iron. Loosely secure your hair at the nape of your neck using the thinnest hair tie you have. Leave out a few face-framing pieces, and touch up their wave with a curling iron. To get the wrap look, take a section of hair from the bottom of the ponytail, and carefully wrap it around the hair tie of the ponytail. Secure the wrapped section by pinning the ends in using bobby pins, and add some extra under the ponytail where they are hidden. Be sure to spritz this loose, romantic style with some hairspray to keep the waves.
Sleek Wrap Ponytail
This sleek wrap ponytail is similar to the previous style, but it provides a more professional or even edgy look. The sleek take on the wrap ponytail definitely keeps all that hair out of your face with no chance of it sticking to your sweaty forehead which is a definite plus this hot season. Start with your hair down and parted down the center. Use a flat iron to straighten you hair, and apply either a shining serum or shine spray to get that truly sleek look. Gather your hair in a tight ponytail at the nape of your neck using a soft bristled brush to get a bump-free and wisp-free ponytail. Grab a section of the ponytail, and just wrap it around the hair tie again, making sure that no loose ends fall out. Tuck the ends at the bottom of the ponytail, and secure using bobby pins.
Fold Under Ponytail
This fold under ponytail can be done with either the loose, romantic look or the slicked back look. It is essentially the same style. Just don’t pull the ponytail all the way through except for the one section that will wrap around the hair tie.
