New Pizza and Beer Pairings

Pancakes and syrup. Wine and cheese. Coffee and cigarettes (at least according to Jim Jarmusch). These are things that go together naturally. Who would eat pancakes without syrup? What sick individual would even think to take a trek down that avenue of madness? That said, what about pizza and beer? As soon as one is of age to booze it up, the combo of pizza and a tall glass of brew is something that’s nearly impossible to turn down. Believe me, I’ve done the research in my lab.
Since it’s summer, this is about as great a time as any to take a road trip. While you’re out on the roads of the great American highway, why not track down some of the best beer/pizza combinations that this great country has to offer? Far and wide, Draft has compiled a list of the 15 best pizza’n’beer combos you’re likely to find without looking in the backwoods.
If you’re heading through Dallas, Texas, you might want to stop at Eno’s Pizza. While you’re there, you had best pair the Bear Republic Racer 5 brew with their flaky-crusted pie. There’s plenty of time to get all the authentic barbeque that you want in Texas, so might as well switch it up.
Chicago has long been touted as one of the pizza Meccas in the U.S., and Roots Homemade Pizza comes highly recommended in a city that knows its pies. Two Brothers Brew pairs nicely with their sausage pizza that is hand-tossed (an art form that slowly is dying).
South Carolina is one of the few truly gorgeous places in the U.S. that’s somehow still flying under the radar. While cool nooks like Austin have officially been found out, S.C. still has this hometown feel while being a booming cultural center of the south. If you do decide to hit it up (and I highly recommend it from personal experience), then stop at EVO. EVO stands for “Extra Virgin Oven” and highlights a pizza called the Pork Trifecta (use your own imagination there); it pairs well with Holy City Brewing’s pilsner.
