Red Dress Inspiration
Red is a color that represents a lot of things–love, anger, blood, fire. Overall, I’d say it is a powerful color that says powerful things, especially in fashion. Recently, my attention has been drawn to the red dresses on celebrities, models, and on the streets, and it seems that anyone who is sporting one of these red frocks exudes power, confidence, and just the right amount of sex appeal without going overboard. It’s an attention-grabbing color, and we should all have at least one red dress to pull out of our closets when we are feeling that red attitude.
One of my favorite red dress looks that I’ve seen recently is this red Valentino dress worn by Clemence Poesy. The model-turned-actress obviously has a great sense of style and access to great fashion as shown by this red dress look. This red skater style dress does all the talking while her accessories and beauty looks stay fairly simple. I love the simple black shoes with the ankle strap and the black clutch, as well as the simple middle part pony tail. The whole look is very chic. When wearing a red dress, take a tip from Clemence Poesy’s look and keep the rest simple, since the red dress should be a statement on its own.
Though I drool over this Valentino dress, the closest I’m coming to it is this very picture, but that doesn’t mean chic red dresses are out of our reach. For a dress that has the same chic and modest element of the Valentino, check out Diane von Furstenberg’s Jori Dress in Cherry from Shop Bop. It has a boat neck cut which is also a high neck cut like the Valentino. The Diane von Furstenberg dress has a fairly simple cut and some pleated detailing, but the bright red color is the main focus of the dress. For a dress that has a bit more of that red sex appeal, check out alice & olivia’s Long Sleeve Goddess Dress, also from Shop Bop. Its shorter cut and body-con style definitely rules out the modesty aspect without getting too revealing, and it maintains the chic element. I like the slightly darker, wine red color for a night out, and the draping detail keeps it interesting, making it a perfect option for the red dress in your closet.
