Unofficial Sarcastic Souvenirs for 2012 Olympics

Hey! Did you guys know that there is this super-cool sporting event that just started? Yeah! I guess it’s like this big event where all these different athletes from around the world get together to see who is the best at what they do. It’s loud, it’s fun, it involves a hell of a lot of showing off, and pretty much holds it’s host city (London) hostage for two weeks. While I love to watch the Olympics (uhh, who DOESN’T), I always laugh at how absurd the locals’ lives must be during that time. Every day tasks like going grocery shopping or running to the bank take HOURS due to there being tourists EVERYWHERE. The Hacknay-based Trobatron has premeditated these annoyances and created a series of sarcastic Olympic souvenirs for the cynical locals who are dreading the games.
Trobatron is the alter-ego of illustrator Toby Leigh, and his unofficial souvenirs are already gaining tons of attention. The series of souvenirs is titled “That Big Event in London” and serves as an unofficial reality-check for those who will be attending and/or enjoying the Olympic events. The design is a mocking parody of the absurd logo that was designed for the Olympics this year and features snarky remarks about the event. The comments include: “They’re all on steroids” (*cackle* ain’t it true though), “It only took me 3 hour to get to work this morning” (oof, I can only imagine!!), and “I’m renting my flat to a fat American family” (hahaha! …HEY! Wait a minute…!!).
Before you get all butt-hurt about these “mean” souvenirs, please remember that it’s all in good fun, and they are supposed to be read with a hint of sarcasm. Trobatron isn’t downplaying the awesomeness that is the Olympics, just pointing out the fact that events like this can cause absolute chaos in our day-to-day activities. And if you’re still pissed off, how about this: all the funds made through the purchase of these bags and t-shirts will go to help support the women in Malawi, Africa. There. Don’t you feel better now?
