Young Empires “White Doves” Interactive Video

Welcome to 2012, the year of the interactive music video. Tired of sitting idly watching some self-indulgent video unfold, musicians are inviting fans to experience their music in exciting new ways. The latest band on the music-video-turned-game circuit is the indie Canadian four piece Young Empires with their addicting single “White Doves.”
It may be easy to compare Young Empires with other bands Nylon Magazine compared them to The Rapture, and NME wrote that they have “the mathmania of Battles, the gloss’n'grandeur of The Killers, and the calamitous quiver of Arcade Fire.” Arcade Fire being, naturally, the easy parallel because of the band’s Canadian roots.
But there’s something different about this band that sets them apart from the hot-air conversations that begin with “the next….” Take their first single “White Doves.” A song that contains an euphoric melody and dreamy lyrics, it is a perfect alternative rock song. There is a dream pop element to their music, almost derivative of early 90s Brit pop — a cosmic quality that gives Young Empires substantial weight in the over-saturated world of indie music.
The band’s massive sound is commanding of a large audience, appealing to the masses without compromising their raw rock sound. And now they are thanking their fans by introducing their new interactive video for “White Doves” via Facebook Connect. With one click, your memories (or at least those on Facebook) become part of the song’s narrative. The band teamed up with director Miles Jay, digital director Derek Blais, and the digital design team at Jam3 for this unique endeavor.
Los Angeles residents, rejoice! Young Empires will play the Bootleg Theater on July 5th with Humans opening. Tickets are only $10, giving you a reason to continue the Independence Day celebrations well after the fireworks finish. View the full list of Young Empires’ U.S. tour dates below.
