Titus Andronicus Announces “Local Business” LP

Depending on your favorite bands, you may view this year as a dud or an extraordinary one. To me, 2012 has been one of the best years for music I’ve heard in quite awhile. The amount of worthwhile music released this year has been staggering, and I’m still attempting to catch up on stuff I’ve been passed on. It’s looking like 2012 is only going to get that much better with the announcement that Titus Andronicus is releasing their third full-length on October 23rd of this year.
Coming via XL Recordings, the band will release Local Business just before Halloween. The band did release a mixtape for free (via their Twitter) this year, but Business is the first proper LP since their life-affirming 2010 effort, The Monitor. Speaking from a deep love of that album, I urge you to pick it up if you haven’t heard it yet. I can absolutely guarantee that if you allow the album to engulf you, you’ll soon be playing it non-stop.
According to the press release, the album was recorded in update New York and deals with “the inherent meaninglessness of life” and allows people to “create their own values and morality.” While this sounds like a downer of a statement, I can promise you that Titus Andronicus is anything but a negatively-minded band. While singer Patrick Stickles is a wordy lyricist and can occasionally wallow in the muck, every Titus song ends on a ferocious note of self-empowerment and guts. If the band continues the same thread that linked Titus Andronicus (debut) and The Monitor, I feel like this could become one of the best albums not only of 2012, but also of the decade.
While never preachy, Stickles definitely has his own opinions about current events. The new album’s title, Local Business, stems from his strict DIY ethics. If you’re interested to hear him speak about this generation, both positively and negatively, then go cop the free mixtape released earlier this year.
