My Bloody Valentine Finishes New Album!

What happened on your 12-21-12? Did the fiery gates of hell swing open to engulf you and everyone you love? Or did you sit at your local tavern counting the empty bottles in front of you rather than the amount of people at the bar losing their minds that this was it? However you spent it, nothing quite significant happened with one exception.
Kevin Shields, singer/songwriter/guitarist/sound architect for My Bloody Valentine, has announced that the band finished mastering the new album that day.
In a statement on Facebook, he simply announced: “On 21-12-12 we finished mastering the new album!”
I know how self-explanatory that sounds and redundant with regard to what I just told you, but this is some massive news in the music world. One has to remember that for independent rock fans this is the equivalent of Chinese Democracy, but with less ego. The last time My Bloody Valentine dropped an album was their universally acclaimed masterpiece Loveless. Since then, it’s been one false promise after another with regard to a follow-up album.
Some of that started to change a few years back when the band regrouped after an extended hiatus to tour again. Their big coming-out party was Coachella, and ever since they’ve been sporadically playing festivals here and there. Though this was a strong first step, the news about an upcoming album seemed suspect at best. Would My Bloody Valentine ever follow up their magnum opus?
For those fans who aren’t quite sure what “mastered” means, it’s a signal that the record is as done as it’s going to get minus actually being pressed and packaged. For all of the false starts and big talk that Shields has made over the years, it’s finally becoming a reality. No word on the title of the album or an official street date, but you can expect it sometime in 2013. This is real this time. Get psyched.
