Blog Crushing: Ordinary People

There is nothing ordinary about Ordinary People’s Alyssa Lau. Between her killer outfits and enviable brains (she studies chemistry), the Canadian blogger extraordinaire has an “it” factor that makes her nothing short of extraordinary. A style that combines bohemian and sophistication, Ordinary People is a blog we can’t get enough of.
It could be said that Alyssa found herself on the Internet when she began her career as a fashion blogger. She started Ordinary People with her cousin Kurtis in 2011, and it’s fascinating to see how her style has evolved in such a short time span. She’s always had a knack for putting outfits together and looking magazine-ready, but 2012 is when she truly came into her own as an Internet icon. Perhaps it is because of her love for the chic online community. Not only does she get serious “hype” on her Lookbook page, she looks to other blogs as a way of cultivating her own haute aesthetic. “I look at street style and fashion blogs and do most of my shopping online,” Alyssa told Fashion Magazine.
Compared to other girls who have spent years building up an Internet following, Alyssa catapulted to “It Girl” status instantly. Beyond her looks, her ability to create exciting and original outfits has earned her quite the cult following and tons of “c/o” (courtesy of) clothes from PRs who want her to show off their designer clients. Few 20-year-olds can say they own pieces from Acne, Rich & Skinny, and T by Alexander Wang.
The best part about Ordinary People? Alyssa’s stream-of-consciousness, honest writing that keeps each post super-personal. While other bloggers let free duds and big time features get to their heads, Ordinary People stays in the ordinary realm, despite the star power of its leading lady. Honest, forthright, and downright fabulous, Bangstyle has a major crush on Ordinary People. Who knew Canada could be so chic?
