We’re thrilled to promote the first annual Northwest Hairstyling Awards, held this weekend in Seattle. DList Magazine has teamed up with our dear friend Lisa Vann and her salon Vann.Edge Salon to create Seattle Style Weekend to honor artists in the fashion and beauty industry, along with sponsors Stella Artois, Pinnacle Vodka, and Skinnygirl Cocktails. The Hairstyling Awards will be hosted by industry icon Charlie Price, with proceeds benefiting The Pink Gene Foundation for breast cancer. We are honored to help promote the amazing talent in the upcoming awards, and even had the pleasure of getting the scope from the artists about their individual collections. Check out the incredible nominees for Hairstylist of the Year!
Emily Austin (Untangled)
“It’s about time. Actually, it’s about the passage of time. I have seen myself age. I have seen my clients age. I have been a front row witness to how time changes us all, and especially how time changes and redefines beauty. So many people feel lost in a culture that equates youth with beauty and I am honored to help them feel beautiful at any age. I wanted to showcase MY work and what I do every day. I settled on the theme of “Real People, Unreal Hair” where I have showcased three amazing clients with similar, yet individualized looks: a classic pompadour for Paul the 75 year old Dentist, sexy silver for 62 year old artist Kassie, and a style for 22 year-old Emily that matched her edge but could be toned down for her work as a banker. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed the process of creating them. After 31 years of working in this industry, this is my first photo shoot. It’s about time :-)” - Emily Austin.
Jaclyn Beith (Seven)
"The inspiration behind this collection of cuts, hair color and styling was all about creating shapes and working with contrasting textures. I wanted each model to have a very unique look by combining etherealness with smooth sharp lines. A perfect marriage between hard and soft" - Jaclyn Beith.

Joe Carling (Mode)
"My inspiration for my collection is derived from vast diversification. I drew upon 40's starlets, hipster Seattle bars, and pop music" - Joe Carling.
