Although we’ve just gotten through Labor Day and the return to school and Halloween hasn’t even commenced, let's be real – it’s already time to start prepping for the holiday season. There is often a little lull around now as clients watch the trends and make future appointments, but before you know it, the chaos that is a salon during the holidays will be here. From last-minute appointments to big style transitions, around this time of year, all bets are off and if there is one thing we’ve learned it’s to start preparing EARLY.

Aside from getting the books in order, staffing and stocking the salon, you’ll also want to start thinking about how to decorate (if you like that kind of thing) and how to make a little extra money around the holiday season. Maybe clients are ecstatic from their Pumpkin Spice Latte fix or the fact that they can finally wear sweaters again, but something about this season adds a little spring to everyone’s step. With cheer in the air, it can be a great time to capitalize on a few salon upgrades to help usher in a little extra income.

Start With A Holiday Display

The level of holiday spirit you want to exude is totally up to you, but adding a few simple setups around the salon can easily get clients in the mood to splurge!

One of our favorite tips from Sam Villa, Global Artistic Ambassador for Redken 5th Avenue, is to place bobby pins in a bowl and toss them with Redken Dry Shampoo Powder 02. Let your clients pick them up and play with them and show them how the mix of the two allows them to create more hold with their bobby pins with a simple dusting. By allowing them to touch and play with it, it will pique their interest and leave them hungry for even more knowledge. With multiple uses, it will also have them leaving the salon with Redken Dry Shampoo Powder 02 in tow.

Offer A Gift Wrap Perk

Create an offer that gives clients another excuse to pick up their holiday gifts in the salon.

For example, you can offer accessories or minis of their favorite products alongside a free gift-wrapping option. If they decide to purchase something like the New Triple Pure 32, you can include a set of gold bobby pins inside the package or decorate the exterior with this fun flair. If clients are opting for sets – like a Shampoo and Conditioner Duo – you can offer free minis as stocking stuffers!

Upgrade Your Services

Around this time of year, clients want to be pampered. As Q4 rounds out and the stress of the holidays – travel, in-laws, or endless shopping – kicks in it is a great idea to offer special services, like a braid bar for New Year's Eve. Instead of Black Friday, as this is usually a slow day in the salon, (blame electronic sales…) you can have a Wishful Wednesday instead.  Offer clients a free blowout with glossing treatment or host a happy hour to show them how thankful you are for their business.
