With a 70's revival and nod to the 90’s the styles seemed deconstructed and almost understated, while the hair, makeup, and nails gave off the subtle impression of ‘working woman’ - The woman who always has time for the weekly mani for nails to match her fashion forward wardrobe, perfectly dewy skin, and hair looks like it was done effortlessly - no doubt while simultaneously reading the WSJ, making coffee and acting as an all around wonder woman.
What we're looking forward to next season on the beauty front?
Hair
Fringe! Whether on your purse, boots, or on your face, is still in style. Defined parts are having a defining moment; Part it down the middle or severely to the side with style. Adorn! Throw in a braid or add an accessory (bobbies, flowers or jewels). Play up your babies! Bring those tendrils front and center, it’s cool to have ‘pony fringe’. Make those waves even softer if you can, seventies smooth is front and center. Last but not least, don't forget to dress up! Simple pony’s were getting adorned with velvet ribbons, tied in ropes, or fastened to the nape with elastic. Horse around with it and have some fun!
Makeup - Subtle with pops of color!
Highlight your lids, or your lips - but not both. Colored shadows and liners are making a play and accentuating fresh faces - dewy and bronzed, as seen at DVF and Monique Lhullier. If you’re opting for a pouty punch, poppy pinks and rosey red were highlighted at Marchesa, Zac Posen, and Oscar De La Renta, to name a few - perfect for spring. And, although most of us agree that we couldn't survive without our coffee and mascara - it looks like the lashes took a backseat this season with little to no, or “Recessed Mascara” seen at BCBG, we’ll leave that one for the fresh faced 5 foot 11” models.
Nails - Not to be forgetten!
Nails are on fire and nail art is making its way to the forefront of fashion. Mani’s to accentuate the styles took off with subtle lace, geometric elegance, and a new take on the french. OUI OUI! Manhattan’s growing cityscape inspired manicurist Gina Edwards with her accentuated negative space mani at the Jonathan Simkhai show.
