Having attended a plethora of weddings and having lived through my own wedding I’ve learned a thing or two about beauty advice for brides! Apart from going through the process myself, I also have a background as a stylist! I know that when it comes to your wedding day – the struggle can be real! No matter whether you’re a low-key bride or an expert stylist, tensions run high on wedding days and sometimes things don’t always go as planned. Through my own trial and errors and watching fellow brides go through the same struggles, I’ve learned a bit or two about the process. My wedding gift to you is a few tips to achieve the best version of you that is possible.

BRING A PICTURE

You may think that you’re an expert communicator, but waves to one person could mean curls to another. I’ve had plenty of circumstances where I thought (as a stylist) that I would be able to get exactly what I wanted, “I speak stylist,” I thought – but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The beautiful things about stylists are their ability to create their own unique touch. Individuality is key but also causes a small amount of room for mistakes. When picking a picture you’ll also want to think about how similar that model is to you – color, cut and texture. Getting a realistic outcome comes from realistic expectations.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS HAVE A TRIAL

Hey, I know it better than anyone – weddings are expensive! You may not want to have to pay for multiple trials with different stylists, but this is the BEST way to get on the same page before the big day. You really do get what you pay for and investing in spending time with your stylist is also a great perk for a seamless day.

HAVE A POW WOW

Makeup and hair are usually some of the biggest beauty components of your day. It is important to put your makeup artist and hair stylist in touch with each other. It is also a great idea to discuss in detail or introduce the two, so they see the total vision.

TAKE (LOTS) OF PICTURES

Looking in the mirror is one thing while taking a peek at pictures is another. It is a great idea to have someone take a few snaps of your finished style from a few angles to see exactly what your wedding photographer will see.

BOOK EARLY

Once you’ve made your final decisions about hair and makeup, be sure to book early. If a stylist is taking a Saturday off from the salon, they’ll need plenty of time to prep and plan ahead.

COMMUNICATION IS KEY- TELL THEM WHAT YOU DON’T LIKE!

You need to be able to talk to your stylist. If there is something you don’t like, be sure to speak up and tell them exactly what it is. As much as we would love it - no one can read your mind, so make sure communication is clear. This will lead to fewer mistakes and a seamless style when the big day comes!
