How is it possible that 2019 is already coming to a close? It seems like it was just yesterday that we were scoping out the latest styles on the Fall/Winter 2019 runways and swooning over the red carpet looks spotted during the award show season. But, as 2019 comes to an end, there’s no better time to look back and reflect on the things that we’re most appreciative of, namely the top trends and products that have saved our strands all year long. Check out the five things we’re most thankful for this year.

1) Hair Accessories

Although some trends are best left in the past, the ‘90s-inspired hair accessories that reigned supreme on this year’s Fashion Week catwalks gave just about every girl the perfect excuse to throw her hair up into a clip and call it a day. From oversized claw clips to embellished barrettes and hairpins, retro hair accessories have been a trendy and practical addition to nearly every girl’s haircare routine. And, if the comb clips and headscarves spotted at FW SS20 are any indications, it looks like hair accessories aren’t going anywhere anytime soon!

2) The Bob

Undeniably the hottest cut of the year, the bob craze has inspired just about everyone to go shorter, including A-listers such as Kaia Gerber, Kim Kardashian West, Bella Hadid, Brie Larson, Emilia Clark and so many more. No longer reserved for busy moms and corporate power women, a bob works on a variety of hair textures, whether you wear it straight, wavy or naturally curled. Though this season’s style lends a subtle nod to the ‘90s, it also offers an effortlessly chic yet modern flair that’s hard to resist.

3) Styling Brushes

Although heat-styling brushes are nothing new, it appears that they’ve finally gotten the recognition they so deserve. From the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer to the iconic Dyson Airwrap to hundreds of dupes on the market, hair brands finally took note of users’ biggest blow-drying problems (i.e. lengthy dry times, difficulty in maneuvering a traditional round brush, frizz, etc.) and decided to do something about them. Today’s heat-styling brushes not only drastically cut dry time in half, but they also smooth and straighten in a single motion, making them an integral part of nearly every girl’s hair routine.

4) Curtain Bangs

Finally, women no longer have to fear the dreaded growing-out period that occurs after getting bangs. Curtain bangs, aka long fringe that’s parted down the middle, have become one of the season’s most popular trends. Not only are they less maintenance than traditional bangs, they essentially provide a “safety net”—if you decide to get fringe one day, then decide the look is just not right for you, but you can also sport the trendy style while you wait for your hair to grow out.

5) Chestnut

Though a late player to the game, chestnut has quickly become one of the year’s hottest color trends, serving as fall and winter’s most sought-after shade. And it’s no wonder why: Not only is the warmer hue a pleasant break from the dark ebony locks that are usually a hit during the colder months, chestnut flatters an array of skin tones. What’s more, the striking shade offers endless versatility, whether you opt for subtle hints of balayage or all-over color.
