When it comes to perfecting a hairstyle — it’s all in the details. This is why controlling flyaways is one of the top ways to turn your look from beautiful to extraordinary! The thing about flyaways is that even when you prep to perfection, based on the weather or the environment, they can still peek through. To ensure a smooth and sleek finish, Karla Valenzuela, Sam Villa Ambassador and Redken Artist @kolor.me. karlaa has a hot tip for reducing frizz even after a style is finished.  See it in action here after she creates a twisted low bun.

Tips for Controlling Flyaways

“Anytime I see flyaways, I like to use my Sam Villa Artist Series 2-in-1 Marcel Iron and Wand.  It has a little detach button to release the spoon from the wand and I use just the wand to control stray hairs,” explains Valenzuela.

  • Very gently rub the wand over the hair, pressing in the direction of the hair cuticle to smooth and polish.  It’s great because even if there is a braid or various patterns in the hair, the wand can easily be maneuvered in the right direction to minimize those tiny hairs that make hair look frizzy.  And the technique can be used to amp up the shine factor as well.
  • Finish with hairspray to set.

A Marcel handle affords a stylist control and professional styling options, and once the spoon is removed it becomes a wand.  The 1” barrel is perfect for creating tight, bouncy curls and gorgeous waves. The 1.5” barrel is perfect for working with longer hair and for creating voluminous waves with natural movement.

There’s a world of beautiful possibilities with this one versatile tool!
