Learn a little more about Tanya Foster, owner of KISS KISS BANG BANG, a COLOR.ME Salon...

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born in the Philippines. Navy brat. I got in to hair because I needed a creative outlet. I didn’t have the best childhood. I wanted to be heard in my way. I loved my own hairdresser. She was so cool in my eyes. She helped me get in to it. I am going on my 30th year and love it more every day.

Tell us about Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang.

KKBB is a safe haven, that place where negativity and drama is not allowed. It is where you go to leave all that behind. Everyone is welcome. We are a band of misfits, people that didn’t fit in but at KKBB, we do. It is focused on being the best we can and bringing that out in others. We have weekly education time and it is not just technical. It’s business, motivational, and personal growth. We have a book club and often the books are more about bettering ourselves. We are community. We give a lot to those in our community that need our help. We happen to do hair last.

Describe your clientele.

Our clients love the energy. People are people no matter where I have traveled; we all want the same things. We all want to be taken care of, to feel beautiful, to have confidence and to feel we matter. That is our clientele.

What inspires you?

My staff inspires me. My children. People that need guidance inspire me. Growth inspires me. Change inspires me. Nature and the beauty that is around us inspire me.

How do you keep your staff inspired and engaged?

We believe in our team. We are all in this together. Our motto is “Whatever it takes”. We have weekly education in salon. We have team leaders. It is important to us they have skin in the game. We have created committees so all team members are involved in their own growth. Of course we have all the technology tools needed but you can’t really touch a guest through a Facebook or Instagram page. It is still necessary to have real human interaction. We volunteer a lot in our community.
