Neil Barton, Goldwell Ambassador and Owner of Neil Barton Hairdressing shares the top tips to get your festival-ready style all summer long.

Summer is quickly approaching and festival season has already kicked off with Coachella. Now is the time to experiment with colour. The colour trend was huge at Coachella and it’s set to continue right through the summer with dip dye, colour flashes and pastels being bang on trend. The key to festival hair is making sure it’s low maintenance. An ideal product to pack in your rucksack is dry shampoo, spray on the roots and rub through with your fingers to avoid the tell-tale grey residue for an easy way to keep your hair looking fresh. Boho waves are a great summer trend and are easy to achieve. After washing your hair, tie your hair into a topknot and leave to dry naturally. Once dry, undo the topknot and run your fingers through the length of your hair to break up the curls and spritz with shine spray for a glossy finish. The boho waves are imagined to feel young, imperfect but refined, soft and feminine, but also cool and messy. Deconstructed, loose or barely there, they are easy to create and leave hair looking effortless.

For this look, I started by prepping the hair with KMS Moisture Repair Revival Cream, a leave in conditioner that is light and weightless before cutting and styling.

To style the hair, first I blow-dried the hair until it was 80% dry then I used one of my favourite tools, the hot sock. You place it on the end of your hairdryer to diffuse the hair and to give it that undone, natural feel.

I spritzed texturising spray onto the hair before using the hot sock and whilst drying scrunched the hair with my hands to give it that natural/wavy, textured look. If you want an easy way to create this look at home, you can use a texturising spray or salt spray on damp hair and then allow it to dry naturally, scrunching your hands to achieve relaxed, beach waves.

Two of my favourite products to achieve this look are Goldwell Naturally Full Wet and Dry Bodifying Spray as it’s great for giving the hair movement, volume and hold without stickiness and KMS Playable Texture, which is great for creating buildable and re-workable texture without stickiness.

The styling of this look was created to show the different colours throughout the hair, which have a variety of purple tones along with blonde and brunette shades. Pastels are super on trend and are best to be done in the salon by a hairdresser, however, if you want to create this colourful look quickly at home, Goldwell Color Styling Mousse is a great to give the hair temporary colour effects with a quick and easy application using a brush or comb and it doesn't need to be rinsed out!
