Does K18 FutureIQ Actually Work on Greys? My Three-Month Test

Can a scalp serum make a visible difference to grays? I’m giving K18 FutureIQ Biomimetic Hair Longevity Serum three months to find out. I started using it on November 1, 2026, and I’ll be updating this article each month with progress photos, observations and the realities of fitting it into my routine. Check back here to follow along, with my final verdict coming in February 2027.

Why I’m Trying K18 FutureIQ

Taking “before” photos of your hair is a good way to discover you have more grays than you thought. I knew mine were there. I just hadn’t quite appreciated how many until I started documenting them.

Which brings me to the reason for this experiment. I’m currently somewhere between adding more highlights to blend the grays—which I’ll probably do—and wondering whether I’ll eventually want to start covering them with color.

Having worked in a salon, I know what committing to root appointments every four to six weeks can look like. And while I love a salon visit, I’m in no hurry to make that particular commitment. At the same time, I don’t love seeing the grays. Especially now that my camera roll has made it clear there are more than I’d realized.

So when K18 introduced FutureIQ, with claims that include reducing graying, I was curious enough to buy it myself and give it a proper try. This wasn’t a bottle sent over by the brand—this is something I purchased personally because I wanted to see whether it could make a difference to my grays, and whether using it would feel easier than the color upkeep I’m hoping to put off.

So when K18 introduced FutureIQ, with claims that include reducing graying, I was curious enough to give it a proper try. Could a daily serum make a noticeable difference? And would using it feel easier than the color upkeep I’m hoping to put off?

Starting Point: November 1, 2026

Before getting too far into the process, I took photos to capture my starting point. They’ll give me something to compare against over the next three months, rather than relying on what I think I remember seeing in the mirror.  My main focus is whether I notice fewer grays. I’ll also be paying attention to how my scalp feels, how the serum fits into my routine and whether the daily application feels manageable over time. If I add highlights during the test, I’ll document that here too, so there’s context for any changes in the photos.

First Impressions: Easy Application, a Styling Dilemma

A few days in, the application itself is straightforward. Applying a serum to my scalp daily is easy enough. What I hadn’t fully considered was how that extra step would fit around the way I wear my hair.

My hair is curly, but I wear it mostly straight, and I’ve noticed that applying the serum does disturb my style slightly. It’s too soon to know how much it will affect the time I get out of a blowout, but that’s my biggest practical concern so far.

If I need to restyle more often, will the daily upkeep feel worth it? Or will I find myself weighing that extra styling time against simply coloring my hair? I don’t have the answer yet, but it’s part of what I want this review to explore. A visible difference in my grays would certainly get my attention. How much effort it takes to get there—and maintain it—will matter too.

For now, I’m only a few days in, with my starting photos taken and plenty of time left before drawing any conclusions. My first monthly update will be here in December, once I’ve had a better chance to see how the serum fits into everyday life, so check back then!

The Cost and the Commitment

There’s also the cost to consider. At $120 a bottle, with each bottle lasting one month, FutureIQ is a commitment of its own. Depending on your salon, that could be comparable to a root touch-up—but a color appointment also means time in the chair every four to six weeks. I’m weighing the money alongside the upkeep: would I rather commit to regular salon visits, or a daily serum that might mean more restyling between washes? Over three months, I’ll spend $360 on the serum, so whether I see enough of a difference to keep buying it will be a big part of my verdict.

Beyond the money, I can also see the appeal for someone who pays close attention to ingredients and would prefer not to dye their hair. Choosing a serum still means looking at the formula and deciding whether it suits you, but the possibility of addressing grays without changing your hair color is part of the interest here. If you’re reluctant to start coloring, could this be something you’d actually want to keep in your routine? That’s another reason I’m curious to see where I land after three months.
