“Why have there been no great women artists?” is the quote heard around the world. A snapshot from a Linda Nolchin essay, this feminist message was a center point for Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dior SS18 show. Although at times misconstrued, this message is aiming to highlight the gender inequality still present within the art world. Milan Fashion Week - Dolce & Gabbana SS18
Alongside nostalgia, the sheer movement carried on into the Dolce & Gabbana show with an all black flair that exuded simple and sexy. With crowns from bejeweled to flowered and intricate headpieces that look like they stepped out of a Tim Burton film, the looks were clean, colorful and fun! Like most of the shows, there was a feminist undertone, reminding the audience of a domesticated life not so long ago. While the beauty made a nod to the 50’s and 60’s and the clothes to the 90’s, we can only wonder if the prosperous 50’s and the turbulent 60’s will be revisited in seasons to come.
