Tell us a bit about your nominated collection this year. What was the inspiration behind the looks? How did the creative process unfold?
Through collaboration of a few inspiring ideas. I fell i love with the concept of the disheveled feminine woman. The idea of the era of ellis island arrivals in the 1930’s. The woman had such a cross between a rough look but still done up. Dirty layered clothes, but pretty hair. The intermix of the of it all.

Were there collections in other categories that you found inspiring or particularly appealing?
There are so many collections every year in NAHA that inspire me. I have always looked to the winners and finalists page for ideas, creativity, and inspiration. The editorial category is always amazing to see.

What was your most humbling moment as an artist?
Through my career there have been many humbling moments and experiences. It’s difficult to narrow down to any in particular because as soon as it happens, I find myself learning and growing as an individual from it. I’ll share any learning experience with as many people as possible so we all learn from it. It seems to always turn into a win not a mistake.

What was one defining moment in your career?
The game changing moment that struck an amazing path for me was becoming a Redken Artist. This career has changed my life, my families lives, my co-workers and my friends. It has made me a stronger individual. Being a Redken Artist has not only given me the strength to be the leader that I know I am capable being, but the skills to do what I wanted to do best; That is to inspire others. The career as a Redken Artist has given me communication skills, resources, and friendships across the world. It has moved mountains for me. I embrace every opportunity I can get involved with. Whether it is facilitating a salon class, teaching at the number one training facility, the Redken Exchange, getting involved in national cut-a-thon for charity, or being a part of New York City Fashion fashion week.

Do you have a ritual or lucky item you'll be bringing to the awards?
My rituals consist with the power of the mind. It is the most important thing that can make you accomplish anything you want. For me a long distance run can clear my head and get me ready to take it on!

What songs are in your “pump-up” playlist?
I love music. It is very powerful, can change your mood, pump you up, and remind you or a place or time in your life! I subscribe to various podcasts that keep me moving. For me, there is nothing like some upbeat tech house music. My favorite is IAX MIXES EDM house podcast. It’s funny, every time I listen to the set from the shoot day, it feels like I’m right back in NYC at the studio with Nico Iliev and James Vincent.

Which non-hair related areas do you constantly find yourself being inspired by?
Hard work is my inspiration. Besides hair anything, I love physical fitness. It can push you, make you stronger, accomplish goals, and change your life. The way you can make yourself do things you never thought were possible is unbelievable.

What is your recipe for a successful shoot?
A successful shoot consists of your team and your set up . My set up started with reaching out to people that I trust and that have experience in NAHA. I mentored with Kris Sorbie. It was life changing. Because of Kris’ experiences she can truly help connect you goals and aspirations. You have to have the right people that you can trust, communicate with, and admire. Nico Iliev went above and beyond the role of a photographer. We all set up a drop box months in advance to communicate the vision. When narrowing down how I wanted to execute the shoot, the best piece of advice was from Kris Sorbie. ‘DO what you do”. Meaning don’t try to change your style or your methods. When I understood what Kris was saying was when the shoot went from going good to feeling like a dream come true. You have to learn to let go sometimes. I have always felt like that when I do my best work. Of course you practice your craft, but don’t over do it with a road map. Just let it be.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure would be a long distance run. During miles and miles, my puzzle pieces come together. I can work through any presentation, plan an event, create a story board all in my mind while running. Its my go to for clarity.
