BANGSTYLE: Can you give us some background on your career? – years in the industry, education, etc.

Katrin Sif: I went to hairdressing school in Iceland in 2006 and graduated 2009, and the same year I opened my own salon, Sprey. I wanted more than just being at the salon so I started working with photographers, theaters, models and film makers and did hair for magazines, advertisements, plays and photo sessions. I am looking to further my career and do more projects where I can use my knowledge and creativity, learn more and meet people.

BANGSTYLE: How did you get your start in the hair industry?

Katrin Sif: I started working at Toni & Guy as part of my education, from there I contracted with a salon named Apple. My enthusiasm lead me to establishing my own salon where I have worked ever since.

BANGSTYLE: Do you have any advice for aspiring stylists?

Katrin Sif: Don’t let anything stop you. Live the life you want and look for advice and ways to go where you want to go. Just think positive and be active. You have a gift and make the best of it

BANGSTYLE: What are some of your career highlights thus far?

Katrin Sif: I have worked with many photographers and one of them is Anna Osk, her photos are amazing and they have appeared in Vogue.it a few times. That was a big moment for me. I have also been showing hairstyles on hair shows here in Iceland and that is a big step. I’m so glad that I have come this far but I’m going further and that’s exiting.

BANGSTYLE: Who or what inspires the looks you create?

Katrin Sif: I love different, beautiful, trendy, avant-garde looks. I look at everything for inspirations. Photography, clothes, hair, paintings, fashion, art etc. You can find inspiration everywhere and I love that. I don’t like to over think my work. I love looking at avant-garde hair artists to get ideas.

BANGSTYLE: How would you describe your aesthetic?

Katrin Sif: I like to work free-hand and free spirited, let the mind and hands take control and make art. It’s important to simulate yourself and that is what I do constantly.

BANGSTYLE: Can you tell us a bit about the salon Sprey?

Katrin Sif: I established Sprey salon in 2009 in Reykjavík Iceland. It has always been a dream to own my own salon. The salon grew fast these 4 years, now we are 3 owners and we take on students and other hairdressers. We do our own collection twice a year – summer and winter where we get creative and create looks for 6 models. The collection is then sent to magazines and we tell the story behind this work. Photos of the collection hangs on the wall in the Salon until the next one is created.

BANGSTYLE: What would be your dream job within the industry?

Katrin Sif: I have big dreams, I want to do hair in Fashion Week, be on the Toni and Guy team, learn avant garde and more about color and cut, do hair for magazines and make Sprey bigger and open other Sprey Salons over the world. I think really big and I think that’s a good thing.

BANGSTYLE: Any at-home hair tips for our readers?

Katrin Sif: Think about your hair. Its your accessory. It makes you who you are. Play with it, try new things and use good products.

BANGSTYLE: Any future plans or goals for your career?

Katrin Sif: Next step is to show what I am capable of. I’m hoping to go to London in 2014 to further my education. I love what I do and I have real hair passion.
