BANGSTYLE: Can you give us some background on your career?

Lores Giglio: I have been a hairdresser for 25 years. I worked for Paul Dare at Dare and Dare Hair for 8 years where he focused on cutting and education. I needed a change in life, which led me to move to Sydney and start doing session work. Then I started working for Brad Ngata hair extraordinaire since he specialized in editorial styling, that’s the path I wanted to take. I worked at his salon for 5 years and built an amazing relationship with him while working on my session work. Now, 11 years on from Adelaide, I have been a full time session stylist and have loved every minute of it.

BANGSTYLE: How did you get your start in the hair industry and how did you know you wanted to make a career out of it?

Lores Giglio: I suppose, in some respects, I had little choice but to become a hairdresser or makeup artist as my mum was a hairdresser all her life and it’s the only thing I ever knew. Even as a toddler, I would shun dolls and games of ‘Doctors & Nurses,’ preferring to cajole the other kids into letting me play with their hair in my own game invention of ‘Hair Salon’. I began hairdressing at the tender age of 14, I have never looked back, now realizing that such a career is far more than an expression of creativity – it’s higher purpose is to give something back to humanity through the humble ambition to transform people’s self-esteem.

BANGSTYLE: What inspired you to get involved with makeup as well?

Lores Giglio: Australia, being as small as it is, I had no choice but to explore the world of makeup. To survive in the session industry you need to have many skills! I realized I loved having the ability to create an entire look. It’s empowering!

BANGSTYLE: Do you have any advice for aspiring stylists?

Lores Giglio: Do it for the passion, not the glory. Work hard and keep evolving.

Patience, persistence and passion, then add determination, and this is the key to success. Every hairdresser I have admired over my career has, I’m sure, achieved their success with this attitude. There are no short cuts to achieving great things, but the journey along the way is just as great as the success at the end. To stay in the industry you have to keep evolving your passion and challenging your habits.

BANGSTYLE: What are some of your career highlights?

Lores Giglio: Being the Global Artistic director and ambassador for Muk Haircare  for the next 2 years. Working at New York Fashion Week and ending up at the right place at the right time to work on Gisele Bundchen’s hair for the opening of the Vogue Fashion Night Out Sept 2010. I was a 2011 and 2012 Session Hairdresser of the Year finalist at Hair Expo. I was the Head Hair Director for X Factor contestants and Guy Sebastian in 2012 and 2013. While directing hair for the fashion label Romance Was Born in 2012 it was quoted best show at Rosemont Fashion Week.

The opportunity to work shows like Louis Vuitton, YSL, Roberto Cavalli, Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen, Celine, and Sonya Rykiel at NY, Paris and Milan fashion weeks with hair director extraordinaire Guido Palau.

BANGSTYLE: Who or what inspires the looks you create?

Lores Giglio: Any hairdresser that loves what they do. It’s not just about the fame and notoriety, at the end of the day it’s about the passion you put into your work, that’s what I find inspiring. People like Guido Palau have been a constant influence, his knowledge of the craft with his experience in business makes him the ultimate artistic mentor. Also, Brad Ngata has been someone that always amazes me as he constantly pushes the boundaries. His work just looks effortless.

BANGSTYLE: How would you describe your aesthetic?

Lores Giglio: I’m very unique in my personal and professional life, which has created a culture in my style. I can be alternative, colorful and flamboyant. I prefer to create a very individual and distinct look.

I like to feel and look fresh, but funky. My approach is and can be over the top

BANGSTYLE: Do you specialize in a certain cut, colour, or style?

Lores Giglio: I specialize in cutting and styling. I know how to color, but it’s never been a big passion so I leave it to the ones that have it. We can’t or don’t have to love everything, so be good at what you love doing!!!

BANGSTYLE: Any at-home hair tips for our readers?

Lores Giglio: Leave it to the experts! Learn about your hair, hair type, face shape and understand it so you know what suits you and what brings out your best features.

BANGSTYLE: Any future plans or goals for your career?

Lores Giglio: Embracing every opportunity that comes my way, I believe that has been key to the success in my career.

Looking forward to working with Muk and being their ambassador. My role as Global Artistic Director will entail the implementation of a media, creative and education program for the year ahead. I’ll be involved in working with the brand to launch new product ranges. I’ll also be the Hair Director for the new campaign shoot, as well as Hair Director for the brand at any fashion events that we become involved with both locally and overseas. In addition, I’ll be working on a national tour presenting key session styling techniques and workshops for the brand as well as presenting a series of videos for educational purposes. It will be a big year for us!

I’m also looking forward to evolving the new company LSG Creative – LSG Hair Education Artists and opening my new appointment only salon, LSG Hair.
